On entry to Prep (KG2), AIS Dubai children commence the Australian Curriculum. This curriculum forms the basis of all stages of our Primary School through to Year 6, and continues in the Secondary School from Year 7 to 12.
With a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and well-being during the primary years, the Australian International School is exceptionally positioned to help its students reach for the stars. Teachers and staff at the AISD believe in the individual strengths, interests and abilities of each and every student, with rigorous data collection through observation and testing allowing for a comprehensive and consistent view of individual progress. Combining this with our warm and caring staff, excellent teaching programs based within the Australian Curriculum, high safety standards and classrooms and playgrounds, AIS Dubai continues to encourage the development of resilient, lifelong learners experienced in Junior Primary School.
During the early years from Prep to Year 2, strong emphasis is placed on building essential literacy and numeracy skills in line with the Australian Curriculum, forming the foundation for all future learning. Students are guided to develop a love for reading and language through a variety of rich and engaging texts, while actively participating in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing experiences. Foundational skills such as early reading and writing strategies, spelling, and vocabulary development are taught in a clear and structured way.
In Mathematics, students are introduced to key concepts including number sense, sequencing, patterns, position, and the use of mathematical language and symbols. They are supported in developing simple problem-solving skills through hands-on exploration and guided inquiry.
Under the leadership of Ms Linda Elder, Head of Primary School, AIS Primary fosters a supportive and student-focused environment that promotes wellbeing, positive behaviour, and a commitment to personal growth. Each child is encouraged to reach their potential, develop confidence, and engage meaningfully in their learning within a welcoming school community.
“Our focus is on creating a strong start for every child, where curiosity is encouraged, confidence is built, and a lifelong love of learning begins.”
Linda Elder, Head of Primary School
